Improvising Politics
2013-2018Improvising Politics was a series of artist-led workshops that used simple movement tasks, group improvisation, and discussion to explore how power operates between people. I designed and led the sessions, setting clear structures within which participants chose how to act, respond, and take space.
Rather than aiming for expression or performance, the workshops focused on attention and decision-making. Exercises moved between stillness, movement, instruction, and reflection, allowing political relations to be felt in the body rather than named in advance.
The work treated politics as something enacted through everyday gestures, proximity, and timing. Meaning emerged through participation, not demonstration, with each group shaping the outcomes differently within the same framework.
